This old tobacco factory lays directly in front of the former concentration camp Auschwitz I and was used as a granary during the nazi era. Many inmates of the camp were used for slave labour in this building, some attempted an escape and succeeded.
The House of Shimon Klieger

Shimon Klieger was the only jewish former inhabitant of Oswiecim, who returned later and lived here permanently. After he had returned in 60ties, he lived an introverted life until he died in 2000. He was the first one to be buried on the imbruted jewish cementary of oswiecim. His house is now property if the Auschwitz Jewish Centre and is planned to be turned into a jewish museum.
Factory in Dwory
![]() |
An old, abandoned factory in the outskirts of Oswiecim, near the actual factory complex of Dwory S.A. Obviously built in the nazi era, the factory is today completely abandoned and locked. The shots were taken with an cheap Olympos camera. I’m going to re-explore it with my Canon 400D.
